about vpl

Our Mission

Vermont Performance Lab is dedicated to supporting the creation and development of new work of contemporary dance and music and encouraging ongoing discussion between the performance artists and their audiences.

VPL’s Lab Program provides artist residencies for musicians and choreographers. During a residency, selected artists have access to music and dance studios where they can work in a concentrated way. VPL selects a few projects each year to support by offering artists studio space, housing and stipends. Projects are artist driven and can range from a 10 day creative residency to a project that develops over the course of 12 months and culminates in a public performance. As part of every residency VPL fosters communication between artists and the local community through open rehearsals, artist talks workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and performances. VPL often partners with local organizations to host such residencies and create meaningful connections between artists and communities.
