Martin
Chaput studied at Les Ateliers de Danse Moderne de Montréal before
moving to France in 1987 where he pursued his training with members of
the companies of Dominique Bagouet, Viviane Serry, Bernard Glandier,
Sylvie Girot as well as with Mathilde Monnier, Steve Paxton, Lisa
Nelson, Simone Fortie and Didier Silhol. As an interpreter, between
dance and performance art, he has collaborated most notably with
Jean-Pierre Perreault, Philippe Genty, Claire Jenny, Thierry and Marion
Bae, Luc Perrot and Rémi Uchéda.
Martial
Chazallon has conducted research in South Africa into the mechanisms of
identity construction with art, around the work of the Ndebele
painters, with whom he created, in 2000, the performance “Wake Up!”
This was the starting point for a choreographic research that he has
since developed with, among others, Mr. Chaput, Daniel Soulières,
Panaibra Gabriel and the visual artists Maciej Fiszer, Maryvonne Arnaud
and Berry Bickle.
Mr. Chaput and Mr. Chazallon have
collaborated since the creation of “Du Haut” in 2000, followed by
“Manège” (2001) and “Wake Up! You need to sweep the courtyard!” (2001).
Then with the 4 M’s project, a research into urban and intimate
corporalities, he co-directed in Mexico “Miradas cruzadas” (2002), in
Montreal “Appartement témoin” (2005) and in Maputo “Taxidermie” (2006).
This last piece was re-staged at the Merlan, National Theatre of
Marseille and at the National Choreographic Centre in Rillieux-la-Pape,
giving rise to “Taxidermie #2” (2007). “Tu vois ce que je veux dire ?,”
a choreographic blindfolded journey, was created in Marseille in 2005
and re-created for the Lyon Dance Biennial in 2008.-Nicolas-Ruel-4.jpg)
