Founded in 2000, Adele Myers and Dancers is a five-member contemporary dance company combining robust athleticism, theatricality, and social commentary, and is dually based in CT and NYC. The mission of Adele Myers and Dancers is to create engaging dances that are accessible to a wide range of audience members. The company has received support from the City of New Haven, the State of Connecticut, the LEF Foundation, NEFA’s RDDI series, and the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC).
In addition to directing Adele Myers and Dancers, Myers is a Professor of Dance at Connecticut College. Her choreography has been presented nationally including Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out; Bates Dance Festival; Tanglewood Music Center; Velocity Dance Center; New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas; Stonington Opera House; DanceNowNYC; Dance New Amsterdam and Joyce SoHo. Myers was also a choreographic assistant on several projects for Jawole Zollar, Artistic Director of the Urban Bush Women (UBW) including a residency with the Alvin Ailey American dance Theater. As a performer, Adele was a member of Joy Kellman/Co. in NYC for six years and a guest artist with other companies including Momix.
Recent collaborations in music include two original scores composed by Jazz musician/composer Ben Wolfe ("8 Views") and an electronic score by Kyle Olson ("what we have is half of what we wish for").
Myers earned a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, an MFA at Florida State University, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Performance Studies at New York University.
