Our Mission

Vermont Performance Lab is dedicated to supporting the work of contemporary dance and music and encouraging ongoing discussion between the performance artists and their audiences. Housed in southern Vermont, the company underwrites the work of artists and scholars, students and professionals, involving its partners and the public in the creation and development of all aspects of the work – from composition to rehearsal and performance, to discussion of the art and its creation in along the way, such as artist talks and workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions.

VPL’s Lab Program provides artist residencies for musicians and choreographers. During a residency, selected artists have access to state-of-the-art music and dance studios where they can work in a concentrated way. The Project Management Services aspect of VPL provides the artists with the support and services they need for their work.

VPL has partnered with Marlboro College and the Brattleboro School of Dance to provide studio space and opportunities for choreographers to experiment and build new projects. Additionally, VPL is working with Marlboro College, the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center and the Performing Arts/Dance Program of The Windham County Regional Career Center to offer humanities and educational programs in conjunction with artist residencies.
